In the next village to ours there is a lovely small cafe selling hot drinks, baked goods, hot lunches, local produce and interesting gifts. It’s tiny, so tiny it has no seats inside, a few small tables outside and used to be our post office.

Fridays are particularly good here as they do a Friday special. It can be seasonal Pork and stuffing rolls, southern fried chicken rolls, sausage rolls all still warm…each Friday is different. If I have a Friday off work I try to shop here for a hot lunch, tick off the dog walk at the same time and do a circuit back to our village.
What’s this got to do with mistletoe?
So the shop often has a few random surprises. Theses surprises are usually home growers with a glut. This Friday we tied in the dog walk with a hot sausage roll, coffee and Pain au chocolat, all home made. And they happened to have freshly picked Mistletoe from Warwickshire. It’s in our plan to grow our own mistletoe on the edge of the orchard for our florists and I thought…go on then!

So I bought some. I chose the most berries as I want to grow them…none of that kissing under the mistletoe lark! My research suggests its too early to use the berries but I’m a fan of breaking the rules so why not try, what if it works? I’ll probably buy some berries in Feb online just in case but I’m intrigued! Has the warm autumn meant we have viable seed earlier or is my research right? Watch this space, we shall see!
